Pending TEDS exchanges + the 5-day grace (subscription)

Two different things partners often conflate: TEDS pending exchanges (no specific deadline) and the 5-day grace period for failed subscription payments.

Two different "5-day" / "pending" / "suspended" concepts get conflated by partners — and were conflated in earlier versions of this article. Here’s the actual picture.

TEDS pending exchanges

When a customer tries to exchange a stamp or reward for TEDS and your wallet is insufficient, the transaction enters a pending state — visible in /teds/transactions as stamp-exchange-pending or reward-exchange-pending.

The wallet’s tooltip on these rows says:

"Customer exchanged a stamp / reward, but the transaction is pending because your TEDS balance is insufficient. Please top up your TEDS to complete the exchange."

There’s no specific deadline visible in the v1 UI for how long pending exchanges can sit. The signal is just "top up to complete". Topping up clears the queue automatically.

If you let them sit too long, customers may complain that their TEDS hasn’t arrived. So treat pending exchanges as something to clear quickly even though the UI doesn’t enforce a deadline.

Subscription 5-day grace (not TEDS)

This is the separate thing. When your subscription payment fails (card declined on renewal etc.), the subscription enters payment_failed status with a 5-day grace period. The portal banner says:

"We’ve provided you with a 5-day grace period to ensure you don’t experience any interruption in service. To keep your account active, please resubscribe before [date]. After this date, your account access will be temporarily suspended until a new subscription is set up."

So the 5-day clock and the "suspended" terminology applies to subscription billing failures, not TEDS-wallet shortfalls.

Why they get confused

Both involve "pending", "balance", and "the partner needs to do something to clear it". But they live in different parts of the portal:

  • TEDS pending lives in /teds/transactions.
  • Subscription grace lives in the Manage Subscription panel (Settings → Manage Subscription).

What to do

For pending TEDS exchanges: top up via Topping up your TEDS wallet.

For a failed subscription payment: open Settings → Manage Subscription → use the Resubscribe Now action, or Update your payment method.

In one sentence

TEDS pending = "your wallet is low, top up" with no deadline visible in v1. Subscription payment_failed = "your card was declined, resubscribe within 5 days" — these are two different things.
