It is switched on per account while we prove it with live venues. Ask us on the contact form if you would like it enabled.
You choose which of these to offer in menu settings. Enable more than one and the diner picks at checkout; enable only one and it is chosen for them.
Pay at the till
The default, and the one that needs nothing set up.
Diners order from the table and pay at the counter exactly as they do now. The order arrives on the board with a PAY AT TILL pill, and when your staff take payment they tap Mark paid.
Nothing about your existing till, card machine or cash handling changes.
Pay by card when ordering
The diner pays on their phone the moment they order — card, Apple Pay or Google Pay, which matters a great deal for speed at a table.
Card payments settle into your own connected Square account. Loyalty Club never holds your takings. You will need Square connected before enabling this — there is a Connect Square button on the menu settings page, and card orders fail until it is linked.
The kitchen only sees the order once payment has actually confirmed, so a failed card cannot put food on the pass.
Pay with TEDS tokens
Signed-in members can settle an order with TEDS tokens from their wallet, at the standard rate of 100 tokens = £1.
This option appears for members whenever card payment is enabled. Tokens move from the member's wallet to yours, and the transaction is recorded as an order payment.
Run a tab
Table service, digitised. Diners add rounds through the evening and settle a single bill at the end — by card from their phone, with TEDS tokens, or at the till.
You can also settle or write off any tab yourself from the order board.
Signed-in members have an account and a history, so letting them run up a bill is a measured risk. Anonymous guests do not — with the default setting, guests pay as they order instead. You can turn that restriction off, but the walk-out risk is yours.
Tips
When a diner pays from their phone — card or TEDS tokens — they see an optional tip step before checkout: your three preset percentages plus a type-your-own box. Skipping is one tap.
Pay-at-till orders never show a tip step; those are handled by your card machine as usual.
Tips are itemised separately on the bill and on the receipt.
Service charge
A percentage added automatically to every order subtotal, shown as its own line.
It is not a tip: service charge is set by you and applied to everything, while tips are optional and chosen by the diner. Both can be on at once and they are always itemised separately. Table-service venues commonly set one; counter-service venues usually leave it at zero.
Refunds
Rejecting an order that has already been paid returns the money automatically — card payments through Square, TEDS token payments back to the member's wallet. You do not need to process anything separately.
Which to enable
- 01Starting out
Pay at the till only. Nothing to connect, nothing to reconcile, and your team keeps the habits they already have.
- 02Once ordering is going smoothly
Add card payment at the point of ordering. This is where the speed gain is — the table pays without waiting for anyone.
- 03Full table service
Add tabs, so a table can run rounds all evening and settle once.
In one sentence
At the till costs you nothing to set up; card payments settle into your own Square account with Apple Pay and Google Pay included; members can pay with TEDS tokens; and tabs let a table run rounds and settle one bill at the end.
